Our story

Built around children, guided by purpose.

Williams Montessori School began with a simple belief: children learn best when they are trusted, challenged and truly known. More than fifteen years later, that belief still shapes everything we do.

How we began

A small classroom with a big idea.

In 2009, Mr. Williams opened a small classroom in Takoradi with twelve children and one conviction: that education should follow the child, not the other way around.

What started as a nursery has grown into a full school for children from 18 months to 15 years. Along the way, the campus has expanded, the materials have multiplied, and hundreds of families have become part of our story. What has not changed is the atmosphere — calm rooms, warm relationships, and children who are genuinely engaged in their work.

Today, our guides blend authentic Montessori practice with the Ghanaian national curriculum, so children leave us both deeply grounded and confidently prepared for the next chapter.

What guides us

Purpose you can feel in the classroom.

Our mission and vision are not framed words on a wall. They show up in how children treat one another, how teachers listen, and how we measure success.

Our mission

To nurture confident, compassionate and capable children through a prepared Montessori environment, excellent teaching and a genuine partnership with families.

We want every child to leave Williams not only knowing more, but knowing themselves better — curious about the world and kind to the people in it.

Our vision

A school where childhood is protected, difference is celebrated, and learning is a joyful, lifelong habit.

We see Williams Montessori as a place that grows with its community — a centre of excellence in the Western Region and a model of what child-centred education can be.

Our motto

Either the best or with the best.

Our values

Six words we live by.

They are simple enough for a three-year-old to understand and important enough for all of us to practise every day.

01

Respect

For the child, for one another, for the materials and for the world around us.

02

Independence

The confidence to try, to choose, to make mistakes and to try again.

03

Curiosity

Questions are welcomed, followed and celebrated — not rushed past.

04

Community

We look after each other, include each other and grow together.

05

Joy

Learning should feel meaningful, playful and full of small moments of delight.

06

Excellence

High expectations, offered with warmth, patience and the right support.

The Montessori approach

Trust the child. Prepare the environment.

Montessori is not a set of worksheets or a brand of furniture. It is a way of seeing children — as capable, curious builders of their own knowledge.

Our guides are trained to observe carefully, prepare beautiful materials, and step back at the right moment. Children choose meaningful work, repeat it until it is mastered, and gradually take responsibility for themselves and their classroom.

Mixed-age groups mean younger children learn from older ones, and older children practise leadership and patience. Competition gives way to collaboration. Praise gives way to genuine pride in the work itself.

How we teach
“The child is both a hope and a promise for mankind.”
Maria Montessori
Mr. Williams, Founder and Head of School

A word from our head

“Every child who walks through our gate deserves to be taken seriously.”

When I opened our first classroom, I wanted children to feel the same thing I felt as a young teacher: that their ideas mattered. That is still the heart of Williams Montessori School.

We are proud of our academic results, but we are prouder of the kind of people our children are becoming — thoughtful, resilient, and generous with one another. Thank you for trusting us with that work.
